China and Zimbabwe, despite of the vast distance from each other, have maintained a traditional friendship that is deep and firm, and we elevated the bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership in 2018.
In the past 42 years, thanks to the concerted efforts of both sides, our two countries have enjoyed frequent commercial exchanges and fruitful cooperation in all fields, bringing tangible benefits to the two peoples.
China is now Zimbabwe’s biggest source of investment and the third largest trading partner. Chinese companies are investing and starting businesses in infrastructure, mining, agriculture, health and other sectors in Zimbabwe, of which the large-scale steel plant project is progressing smoothly, and the lithium mine project will revitalize the resources that have been left idle for a long time by western companies. Projects funded and undertaken by China gave a strong boost to the infrastructural and economic development in Zimbabwe. China-Zimbabwe bilateral trade reached 1.88 billion USD in 2021, which hit a record high.
China always regards improving the well-being of the Zimbabwean people as the goal of bilateral relationship. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, China has sent an anti-epidemic medical expert team to Zimbabwe and given assistance of 2 million doses of vaccines, and another 10 million doses of vaccines that will be provided soon. 1000-borehole drilling project financed by Chinese grants has been completed. Doctors of the 19th Chinese medical team in Zimbabwe are working in various departments at the Parirenyatwa Hospital Harare. The fourth agricultural expert group will come soon to carry out agricultural demonstration projects. Chinese companies are actively fulfilling corporate social responsibilities by promoting local communities development, providing jobs for local people and improving their living conditions.
