On April 28, 2014, the Chinese Federation in Zimbabwe (CFZ) hosted a Labor Act Workshop in Harare.
More than 80 people from Chinese enterprises in Zimbabwe participated this workshop.
CFZ invited Mr. George Making, a senior legal practitioner in Zimbabwe, to explain the major clauses of
Zimbabwean Labor Act and to answer the questions regarding the labor issues to the Chinese entrepreneurs
who attended the workshop.
Chinese companies have been active in areas of infrastructure, mining, agriculture and other industries
in Zimbabwe since 1980. They have made significant contributions to creating jobs and increasing national
revenue, especially since 2000.In 2013, China became the biggest investor in Zimbabwe again, with the
bilateral trade volume over 1.1 Billion USD.
The differences of culture and law between China and Zimbabwe make some Chinese companies unfamiliar
with certain legal regulations, especially regarding labor issues. The Workshop explained the Zimbabwean
Labor Act systematically and used different examples to give the solutions to the attendees. The workshop
lasted for a whole day and welcomed by all Chinese attendees.
The Chinese Federation in Zimbabwe is a non-profit organization established for the unity of
Chinese people in Zimbabwe and is registered under the Association of Zimbabwe Non-Government Organizations.
